Rain Reigns King at MudManX Jersey Devil
Saturday, October 4 was deemed one of the hottest races of the MudManX season, that is until a massive rainstorm made it\'s way through the Northeast. The Superfecta Series created an avenue for each element to be highlighted during each scheduled 2014 event. If you haven\'t guessed it by now, fire was the main element for the Jersey Devil race at the New Egypt Speedway.
Due to the downpours, fire jumps and the overall incorporation of the scorching element was put to a temporary halt until later waves. Although, rain during a mud run is never a terrible thing. The once dirt track was transformed into one huge mud pit, with reservoirs filling in the shallow parts of the pit.
\"...My eyes lit up when I realized this was a dirt track instead, transformed into a total muckfest with all the extra rain\", men\'s elite first place winner Kevin LaPlatney said on his blog, MudMan Report. \"The mud was incredibly slimy and never allowed anyone to do more than just plod along, as it constantly threatened to take your shoes from you at any point\", he continued.
This seemed to be the general consensus of most of the devilish runners, considering that they really came out for the mud-soaked clothes and free beer.
As the rain let up, the smoldering fires began to light up the far side of the parking lot within the Speedway. Participants flew to unimaginable heights over the flames, while conquering each obstacle before and after the firey pit of hell.
First Trax Competitors like LaPlatney, were awarded for their perseverance and athletic effort placing in the top 6 (top 3 male and top 3 female) of the glorified category. Adorned with division titled medals, a hefty cash prize, and products from our sponsors such as Roomels from and supplements from . Some participants were even worthy of receiving the Superfecta Series medallion for already completing three out of four events this season.
As waves began and were completed, runners made their way up to the festival area to check out photos snapped of them on the course that day, dance to tunes blasted throughout the whole property, win prizes from MudManX\'s sponsor Thunder 106 radio, and relax with a celebratory beer. Rain or shine, over one-thousand determined runners can now say they have conquered the elements.
